Sonnet #41 – a sonnet with your name on it – David Gerard

Sonnet #41 – a sonnet with your name on it – David Gerard

A desp’rate call for justice comes with angst
against the patterned evils of our age
against decorum’s hand, against the ranks
and not until resolved will turn the page

Not for myself alone, but for the poor
For those enchained by bias and by hate
who beg for scraps upon government’s door
who live a dollar short and a day late

So, “Here am I. Here Am I.” Comes the cry.
Forget me not, record my groans this day
My voice will boom like thunder from the sky
until you turn your face and look this way

David Gerard will haunt you like the ghost
of every broken soul in hardship’s host
