Celtic Missional Advent: December 1st – no one is outside the scope of God’s love

Advent December 1st: Saint Tudwal’s Day
John 3:16
No one is outside the scope of God’s Love

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Saint TudwalThe scope of God’s concern is unlimited. His mission is not to one person, or to a nation, but to the entire world. God’s love for the world captivated His heart, and drove Him to come to earth for everyone. This same concern, is now my concern. It is not my family, my immediate neighbors, or my good friends I am called to be concerned for. I am called to care for them, and for a whole world. The heart of missional concern is not a concern just or those closest to me, it is a concern for the whole world: for the least, for the despised, for the difficult, for the broken, and for every person I meet. Like the story of the Good Samaritan, who loved his neighbor, who was not his immediate neighbor, I must learn to embrace the whole world as my neighbor.

Dec. 1st, is the Feast Day of the 6th Century Celtic Saint Tudwal. He founded an ecclesiastical settlement on what is now called Tudwal Island East. Today, all that is left of that settlement is a single ancient rotting building. Tudwal went on to become a Founding Saint in Brittany, being among the first to bring the Gospel there.

Prayer: Lord of all the earth, teach me love all the people of the earth. Just as You came to bring life to everyone, and just as Your concern embraces everyone, let me learn from You. Let my love grow to embrace the world as though every person were my neighbor. Let me not isolate myself, but like Saint Tudwal who went in to the world, teach me to expand my boundaries to love others beyond my immediate little circle.
